Milk for good?
Milk is the least essential food ingredient that could be given to dogs. I'm referring to cow's milk in this context As a practicing vet and veterinary nutritionist, I come across a lot of cases of gastroduodenitis in dogs and the pets are put on life long medicine with PPIs. Long term use of PPIs such as omeprazole can reduce the absorption of vitamin D and calcium ultimately leading to conditions such as osteoarthritis. The chronic prevalence of gastroduodenitis can also change the microbiota of the gut thus, reducing the absorption of essential nutrients. It's absurd but how about a small dietary adjustment that can make your pet feel better long term? True that milk contains proteins, calcium, iron and other minerals but is highly inflammatory.
