Anxiety vs Anti anxiety supplements

Image
Anxiety in pets are on the rise but anti anxiety drops/chews are not a quick remedy Why are cases of anxiety in pets on the rise? ⚠️Food        - Synthetic food        - Processed food        - Sugar based supplements        - tea/caffeine        - poor nutrition ⚠️Certain play toys (I learnt this recently) and play behaviours ⚠️They way we converse with the pet ❌ Loud noise ❌Urban smoke and pollution 🔴Anxious pet parents Why are anti anxiety drops/chews not a quick cure? ⏩ Processed ⏩ Anxiety should be cut down from its roots and it may take weeks to years to get rid of the anxious behaviors Out of all of the above reasons, the most easy and practical factors to avoid would be 1. Food that are harmful 2. Certain play behaviours and/or toys 3. Ways to converse with the pet If you have heard of the gut-bra...

International Dog Day - 2

Image
Pet owners think vets raise "good" dog breeds and I'm disappointing many 😅 International Dog Day - last post Meet Molly, our recent addition to the family ⏩She's  a cross bred fierce unpredictable old doggy who was on the street for several years during COVID. She survived the most difficult times alone although my mother managed to offer some food when possible She actually insisted us into adopting her She's our latest inclusion to the family and I'm a little proud that we decided to give her a safe home and she's very slowly becoming like Spot. Notice her dance moves in the image 😅 When possible ⏩ Feed a stray ⏩ Adopt a stray ⏩ Or atleast not harm stray 💡Any dog is a good dog no matter the breed True that vets have access to buying fancy dogs but... Let vets also raise cross bred dogs 😅🤦 #veterinarian #vetstory #vetlife #vetstory #internationaldogday #internationaldogday2025

International Dog Day - 1

Image
Happy International Dog Day! Dogs = humans They can get things done, live rent free and rule the house and we'd still be okay, right? 🤣❤️ Treasure them and they will treasure you too This is my dog Spot Mc Delgado (to rhyme with our surname "Salgado" 🤣) who lived with us for 17 years. He was a protector, a real companion and a shoulder to cry on. Lots of moments were shared together with him as a family from birthdays to family meals. Was my best teacher, my patient and my study companion since O/Ls. We miss him even after 9 months 💔  but I'm glad we could give him the best possible life ever 😔😢 #internationaldogday2025

Choosing pet food and pet supplements

Image
How to choose a good pet food or supplement - ingredient quality >>> ingredients      ✅ Natural over synthetic      ✅ Human grade over byproducts      ❌ No sugar base      ❌ Not heavily processed - ingredient quality >>> price      ⚠️ Price factor can deceive into quality nowadays - quality of approval >>> approval       ⚠️ Consider who approves. Intergrity is difficult to trace within a short time period. Approval is given by multiple professionals, authorities and regulations but Intergrity and the level of long term accountability to the particular approval is scarce worldwide These are the initial steps on choosing a safe pet food and pet supplement      #petlabs #petlabsnutrition #dognutrition #whattofeedyourdog #petnutrition #dogfood #petfood #vetnutrition #bestpetfood #catnutri...

Heart health in pets

Image
Weak heart muscles in dogs and cats that lead to a condition called Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is mostly preventable but is now a challenge. Taurine is vital for functioning of the heart Taurine is an amino acid ⏩ essential for cats ⏩ that cannot be synthesized by cats on their own ⏩ conditionally essential for dogs that gets missed often in home cooked meals Chronic illness(es) or symptoms of low productivity start to appear ❌ Weakened heart muscles (Dilated Cardiomyopathy - DCM) ❌ Retarded growth in kittens are common Additionally, ❌ Prone to contagious diseases ❌ Progressive blindness ❌ Reproductive failure Taurine plays critical roles in ✅ Heart function ✅ Vision ✅ Bile salt formation ✅ Building immunity ✅ Reproductive health In cats, taurine is a major preventable cause of DCM. Is salt safe for my dog/cat?

Image
"Is salt safe for my pet" ? A common question that I get from pet parents Straight answer is yes There are different types of edible salts in the market today with various opinions on its use on pets 1. Table salt sometimes fortified with Iodine 2. Himalayan pink salt 💡Table salt contains 98% of sodium and chloride. Highly processed. Often bleached. Contains additives  💡 Himalayan pink salt contains mostly sodium and chloride ions but also has small amounts of other trace minerals like Iron, Magnesium, Calcium. Minimally processed. No additives ❤️ Sodium, chloride, Magnesium, iodine, iron are essential minerals for healthy dogs and cats in their daily diet. Salt is a convenient way to provide these minerals  🌟 Sodium ions are important for blood pressure regulation in the body, glucose and amino acid absorption via sodium dependent transporters and to support muscle contractions 🌟 Chloride ions balance the pH in the body, regulate blood pressure and blood volu...

100% natural?

Image
What is "100% natural" in pet food? It's quite concerning when and how the term "100% natural" is used nowadays in pet food 100% natural should ideally mean that there is not even one synthetic ingredient in the entire pet food By law, there are no clear regulations of the definitions for use on such word and terms. Other good examples are "premium", "holistic" . Loop holes are found to get through to sound "better" ❌ Premixes to include the vitamins and minerals are most of the time, synthetic ❌ Processed by-products may be synthetic ❌ Natural extracts may contain synthetics for preservation ⚠️ Using natural ingredients + synthetic premixes does not make a food 100% natural, yes? ⚠️ Using natural ingredients (25%) + synthetic additives (75%) does not make a food holistic, right? 🤞Does this sound fair for a pet owner who wants to go 100% natural on his or her pet? Finding what's right out of the many diffe...

Chicken liver & Rice

Image
Rice and chicken liver - I analyzed another common home cooked meal given to pets ✅ Optimum amounts of Proteins and iron ⬆️ Excessive amounts of carbs ⚠️Insufficient amounts of Dietary fibre, fat such as omega 3 fatty acids, Calcium, Phosphorus, Zinc, Copper, Magnesium, omega 3 fatty acids, choline, vitamin D, Thiamine etc What would go wrong? ⏩ Chronic illness ✅ Dull skin and fur coat ✅ Chronic kidney disease (low vitamin D⏩ hyperPTH)  ✅ Osteoarthritis  ✅ Obesity  ✅ Fatty liver or unexplained liver disease (idiopathic)  ✅ Poor cognition - Doggy dementia  ✅ Depigmentation of fur ✅ Tumors/cancers ✅ Mega colon  If the ratio of chicken liver to rice increases, there are also chances of getting too much of vitamin A, iron and vitamin D - toxicoses   ⏩ Oxalate crystals, uroliths especially in cats How do we prevent?  ✅ External supplementation  How? Options⏬ 1. Synthetic supplements - think twice  2. Natural individual supplements...
