Healing pets through food? "You must not be knowing your subject"

My journey to becoming a veterinary nutritionist in Sri Lanka - and probably the first professional formulator of fresh pet food and pet supplements who is also a veterinarian and a veterinary nutritionist

Veterinary nutrition to me was mostly a self studied subject. I studied it so deeply that I got an "A" grade at uni but I was barely present at nutrtion lectures. I had my math done

I was determined that one day, I would specialize in probably nutrition or in a subject that can help me do better in my clinical practice

Graduated with a top grade but I didn't want to immediately pursue a post graduate that didn't involve clinicals, which is what mostly happens. I took my time exploring my interests and passions and at one point I realized, nutrition is my thing. I also weighed the risks and benefits before pursuing my post grads in veterinary nutrition

In parallel to this, I had unresolved pet cases that I had been wanting answers for, for so many years. No vet, no webinar, no search engine, no journal had answers to the most of them back then. With each increasing year in practice I noticed an increase of chronic diseases in pets

I decided to find amswers using nutrition on patients and on my own dog. This did miracles - I'm not even exaggerating

Now, I specialize in different aspects of veterinary nutrition that help me use my knowledge and skills to treat both companion animals and farm animals who are both sick and healthy

Basically, I use nutrition as therapy

I combine medicine, science and nutrition on a daily basis to
1. treat pets at my practice and
2. formulate pet food and pet supplement brands that I work with

With these practices, I've been able to heal or support a lot of pets suffering from both chronic unresolved diseases and even acute ones without using lots of synthetic meds

Over time, I have realized that natural nutrition DONE RIGHT is more sustainable to pets and animals over synthetic medicine

Here I am, as a veterinarian, a veterinary nutritionist and a formulation scientist in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰.
I think, this is a humbling but a powerful combination to work towards sustainability in pets

With a better understanding of how veterinary science, medicine, nutrition work in normal physiologies, pathologies and in different biochemical conditions of the body

And, I still may hear, "you're crazy", I may be
